Young children learn through play.
The Family Place Library™ children’s playscape on the 2nd floor of the Mounce Public Library is a child-friendly place to visit in downtown Bryan. Several play-activity centers are set up for early learning and literacy. These centers are designed to foster the six early literacy skills that comprise the foundation of future reading success. Many thanks to the Eagle Scouts of the B/CS area for helping us build many of the centers.
The Mounce Public Library was awarded Family Place Library™ certification in August of 2016. This followed almost a year and a half of rigorous training in child development along with the transformation of the Mounce Library’s children’s services model. The original grant for the training and materials for this project was provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The Friends of the Bryan & College Station Library System provide current funding to maintain and expand the Family Place Library™ program within our library system.
